Applied AI Engineer (Part-Time, Remote – U.S.)

At Implicit, we're building the leading AI Knowledge Engine for Maintenance and Support. Our secure, no-code platform transforms complex technical documents, manuals, procedures, and operational data into trusted, structured knowledge that powers both human experts and AI agents.
We're looking for a part-time Applied AI Engineer to help build the next generation of enterprise AI. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, product leaders, and AI researchers to develop production-grade AI capabilities that solve real-world problems across defense, manufacturing, customer support, and other knowledge-intensive industries.
What You'll Do
• Design and build AI applications powered by LLMs, RAG, semantic search, and AI agents.
• Develop intelligent pipelines for document ingestion, knowledge extraction, and retrieval.
• Improve answer quality through prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, and retrieval optimization.
• Build and optimize production AI services using Python and modern AI frameworks.
• Work with agentic development tools including Claude Code, Cursor, and AI-assisted coding workflows.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code with a strong focus on quality and reliability.
• Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and data science teams to rapidly prototype and ship new capabilities.
• Evaluate emerging AI models, tools, and techniques to continuously improve the platform.
Required Qualifications
• 3+ years of experience building AI, machine learning, or NLP applications through industry, open-source, or research.
• Strong experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, and semantic search.
• Solid understanding of NLP, machine learning, and modern deep learning techniques.
• Hands-on experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar ML frameworks.
• Strong Python development skills and experience building production software.
• Experience working with APIs, vector databases, and AI application frameworks.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience building AI systems for enterprise knowledge management or technical documentation.
• Experience with AI agents, tool calling, and agentic workflows.
• Familiarity with knowledge graphs, OCR, document parsing, or multimodal AI.
• Experience deploying AI applications using modern MLOps practices.
• Experience evaluating and benchmarking LLM performance.
