About the Role: We are seeking an Associate Lighting Designer to lead and manage lighting design across multiple concurrent projects, working closely with the Principal and a team of lighting designers. This is a hands-on, technical and creative role. You will own layouts, specifications, coordination, and on-site follow-through, ensuring that design intent survives all the way from DD through final focus. If you are equally comfortable in AutoCAD, in client meetings, and on a ladder during aiming sessions, you’re the profile we’re looking for. Within 12 months, success looks like: you reliably manage several active projects, protect design quality, stay on top of budgets and phases, and are the “go-to” for coordinating with project teams and vendors. Primary Responsibility • Create lighting layouts, fixture specifications, lighting submittals, and ordering cut sheets • Develop preliminary lighting control system layouts and Ketra circuiting detail • Produce design review plans and add circuiting, power supplies, and fixture tags to lighting plans • Respond to lighting sketch / coordination requests and update drawings accordingly • Attend internal project meetings, capture decisions, and translate changes into updated lighting layouts • Manage multiple plan sets across multiple projects and track progress against phase and budget • Monitor project phases, track lighting design tasks by phase, and accurately log project time • Set daily priorities to meet project deadlines • Delegate specification and drafting tasks to the internal design team where appropriate • Communicate critical project details with the Principal and design team • Vet new lighting and control products with the team • Build strong relationships with external design and construction partners • Attend external project meetings, documenting any items that affect the lighting design • Perform site visits / site supervision to verify installation • Conduct final lighting adjustments and focusing at project completion Required: • Minimum 3 years of experience in residential or commercial lighting design or electrical engineering • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or Electrical Engineering preferred • Strong, verifiable computer skills in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook • Experience with Revit, InDesign, and 3D rendering a plus • Current knowledge of residential or commercial lighting products and controls • Current knowledge of California Title 24 Energy Code • Excellent verbal communication skills, with confidence interfacing with clients and project teams • Strong written communication skills • Proven ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment • Experience with residential lighting manufacturers • Experience with electrical design a plus • Ability to climb and perform work on ladders • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record Ideal Values & Skills: • Enthusiastic, professional attitude • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative mindset • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time across multiple projects • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team • Genuine passion for architectural lighting design Compensation and Benefits • We offer competitive compensation commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package, within a stable, design-focused studio environment.
