Project Overview
We are seeking a Senior-level IT Business Analyst to support critical finance initiatives within a large, well-established insurance organization. This role is deeply embedded within Finance and focuses on enhancing financial reporting, close processes, and control frameworks.
This is not a general IT Business Analyst role—success in this position requires hands-on experience supporting Finance teams at an insurance carrier, with the ability to translate complex accounting requirements into actionable IT deliverables.
The primary focus of this engagement is stabilizing current general ledger and financial systems to enable future transformation initiatives across data, reporting, and ERP platforms. You will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, auditability, and operational efficiency in a highly regulated environment.
Key Initiatives & Impact
Stabilize and optimize existing finance and general ledger systems to support accurate financial reporting
Strengthen financial close, reconciliation, and reporting processes (GAAP and Statutory)
Improve financial data integrity, lineage, and audit readiness
Support control-driven initiatives tied to regulatory and audit requirements
Enable future finance transformation efforts by addressing current system limitations
Enhance reporting workflows and data pipelines across upstream and downstream systems
Core Responsibilities
Elicit, document, and validate requirements related to:Financial close and reconciliation processes
Statutory (STAT) and GAAP reporting
Intercompany, reinsurance, and allocation workflows
Finance controls, audit support, and data lineage
Translate finance requirements into:User stories with clear, testable acceptance criteria
Functional specifications for data, reporting, and system integrations
Test scenarios supporting UAT and control validation
Partner closely with finance stakeholders (Controllers, Accounting, Financial Reporting) to:Analyze system impacts across upstream and downstream processes
Identify data gaps, logic issues, and control risks
Support resolution of production issues impacting financial results
Collaborate with development, QA, and data teams to deliver solutions that meet stringent financial accuracy and audit standards
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
5+ years of Business Analyst experience supporting Finance or Accounting teams
Direct experience working at an insurance carrier (P&C, Life, Health, or Specialty)
Hands-on experience supporting insurance financial reporting, including:Statutory (STAT) and/or GAAP reporting
Financial close and reconciliation processes
Intercompany or reinsurance accounting workflows
Proven ability to partner directly with:Controllers
Financial Reporting teams
Accounting Policy and/or Audit teams
Demonstrated experience translating accounting-driven requirements into IT deliverables (beyond process mapping)
Technical & Functional Skills
Strong business analysis and requirements gathering expertise
Experience writing finance-driven user stories in Agile or hybrid environments
SQL proficiency for data validation, reconciliation, and analysis
Exposure to financial data warehouses and reporting layers
Familiarity with ERP systems, general ledger feeds, and financial reporting platforms
Experience supporting UAT and managing requirements through finance-driven timelines
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting regulatory or audit-driven initiatives
Background in finance transformation or reporting modernization programs
Familiarity with environments where financial accuracy and controls take priority over speed
Experience working with complex financial systems such as IAS/SunGard or similar platforms
Work Environment

Strong emphasis on accuracy, auditability, and control governance

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Omaha, NE.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
