Job Overview
OrgShakers LLC is assisting one of our U.S.-based clients in identifying an experienced Contract Fractional Payroll Specialist to support the setup and ongoing management of payroll and HR compliance.
This role will be instrumental in transitioning a small workforce from independent contractor (1099) status to employee (W‑2) status, implementing a payroll system, and managing weekly payroll operations on an ongoing, fractional basis. Due to regular coordination needs, candidates must be based in the Eastern or Central Time Zones.
Key Responsibilities
• Establish and manage weekly payroll for approximately 15 hourly employees
• Lead and manage the transition of all workers from 1099 to W‑2
• Recommend, implement, and administer an appropriate payroll system
• Ensure accurate calculation and timely processing of hourly wages
• Establish and maintain payroll and HR compliance, including:
• Federal and applicable state payroll tax compliance
• Proper employee classification and wage/hour compliance
• Payroll recordkeeping and documentation
• Manage ongoing payroll administration and act as a trusted payroll resource for the organization
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support payroll and compliance requirements
Required Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience managing U.S. payroll, ideally for small organizations
• Hands-on experience with weekly payroll and hourly-paid employees
• Strong understanding of 1099 to W‑2 transitions and related compliance requirements
• Experience recommending and implementing payroll systems
• Working knowledge of federal and state payroll, tax, and wage/hour regulations
• Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information
• Comfortable working independently in a contract, fractional capacity
• Must be located in the Eastern or Central Time Zones
Engagement Details
• Contract, fractional role (not full-time employment)
• Ongoing engagement with recurring weekly payroll responsibilities
• Remote role limited to Eastern or Central Time Zones (U.S.)
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
