Position Overview
We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Data Science Manager to lead our Instagram Ranking Data Science team. This is a exceptional opportunity for a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills to drive product innovation and influence the direction of one of the world's most popular social media platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team that oversees ranking algorithms for Delivery, Feed, Stories, Sharesheet, Notes, and Comments.
This position offers the flexibility of remote work arrangements, allowing you to contribute to our mission from the comfort of your home office. We provide comprehensive support to ensure our remote team members have everything they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
As the Data Science Manager at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in shaping the user experience across our platform. Your responsibilities will include:
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor a high-performing Data Science team, providing guidance on technical skills, career development, and professional growth. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous learning.
- Metric Development & Analysis: Develop goal metrics and evaluate product team performance against established benchmarks. Create actionable KPIs that align with business objectives and product strategy.
- Product Strategy & Analysis: Analyze data trends to identify opportunities and drive product strategy. Size possibilities to ensure product teams are prioritizing the most impactful work that delivers maximum value to our users.
- Testing & Validation: Develop testing plans and validate statistically accurate results. Investigate ad hoc issues and debug regressions to maintain system integrity and performance.
- Stakeholder Communication: Report to arenaflex and Meta stakeholders and coordinate across the company. Communicate analysis results clearly and effectively to executive audiences, translating complex data into actionable insights.
- Data Infrastructure: Partner with Data Engineering to ensure proper metrics are created and validate accuracy. Oversee the building and maintenance of reports, dashboards, and metrics to monitor product performance.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure we have proper logging, tables, and dashboards to measure product success. Develop new metrics with accuracy and stability, validating metric accuracy for internal and external reporting.
- Strategic Planning: Determine methods to apply statistics as a strategic asset in product development. Ensure product methodology has actionable measurement plans through growing aim metrics and comparing product team performance.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of experience in managing diverse team contributors in a formal or informal capacity. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Project Management: Experience starting and driving initiatives to completion with minimal guidance. Proven track record of taking ownership and delivering results on complex projects.
- Communication Skills: Experience crisply and clearly communicating the results of analysis to an executive audience. Ability to present complex findings in a compelling, easy-to-understand manner.
- Technical Expertise: Strong background in related and unconnected ranking methodologies. Experience with ranking algorithms and their application in social media or technology platforms.
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with the following qualifications will be given additional consideration:
- Advanced Statistics: Strong understanding of statistical analysis and causal inference in an experimentation setting. Experience designing and analyzing A/B tests and controlled experiments.
- Big Data Experience: Experience working with large-scale data sets and distributed computing systems. Proficiency in handling massive datasets common in social media platforms.
- Advanced Degrees: Master's or PhD in a quantitative field is highly desirable but not required.
- Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with social media platforms, recommendation systems, and content ranking algorithms.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL. Experience with data visualization tools and business intelligence platforms.
