Univedge Consulting LLC is a leading global consulting organization, and they are seeking an experienced Health & Benefits Consultant to support a major employer healthcare advisory engagement. The role involves working with large employers and health insurance carriers to design and optimize employee health and benefits programs, focusing on strategic consulting rather than benefits administration.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage carrier/vendor RFPs end-to-end: strategy, drafting, evaluation, negotiation support, and final recommendations
- Advise employer clients on medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, and ancillary benefits design
- Benchmark client plans against market data — plan design, cost, contribution strategy, and pharmacy/drug spend benchmarking
- Analyze workforce demographics (age bands, utilization, claims patterns) to recommend targeted interventions — e.g., preventive care programs, wellness initiatives, chronic condition management
- Navigate payer/insurance carrier relationships and underwriting discussions
- Ensure recommendations comply with federal and state-level regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, state mandates) across client geographies
- Deliver clear, executive-ready analytics and recommendations to HR and CFO-level stakeholders
Skills
- 12+ years in health & benefits consulting, brokerage, or carrier-side strategy (consulting firm, national brokerage, or payer background strongly preferred)
- Deep, hands-on RFP experience — you've run them, not just contributed to them
- Strong command of US healthcare regulations and how they vary by state/geography
- Fluency in benefits benchmarking tools and data sources; pharmacy benefit benchmarking a strong plus
- Analytical mindset — comfortable turning claims/demographic data into program recommendations
- Excellent client-facing communication; comfortable advising senior HR/Finance leaders
- Willingness for occasional travel to client sites (East or West Coast based on location)
