The Retail Design Engineer will transform design intent into production-ready solutions, collaborating with various teams to solve technical challenges and ensure high-quality execution of retail environments.
Responsibilities
- Engineer custom retail fixtures, millwork, displays, and branded environments for production
- Create accurate 3D models, shop drawings, BOMs, and production documentation
- Evaluate designs for manufacturability, durability, cost, and installation
- Collaborate with designers to develop thoughtful engineering solutions that support the original design intent
- Support project managers and production partners with technical problem solving throughout the project
- Research materials, hardware, fabrication methods, and manufacturing processes
- Develop installation documentation and assembly instructions
- Review prototypes and production samples, identifying opportunities for improvement before manufacturing begins
- Stay connected through production to help ensure the final build reflects the original vision
Skills
- 5+ years experience engineering retail fixtures, millwork, furniture, architectural products, or branded environments
- Strong knowledge of wood, metal, sheet metal, plastics, and manufacturing methods
- Confidence collaborating with designers, manufacturers, and project managers
- A practical mindset and an appreciation for thoughtful design
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent professional experience
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks
- Experience engineering wood, metal, sheet metal, and welded assemblies
- Ability to create production-ready shop drawings and engineering documentation
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, tolerances, and fabrication techniques
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
