They are seeking a Software Engineer I to join the Interactive News team, where the role involves building and maintaining interactive features for CNN digital storytelling while collaborating with various teams to enhance user experiences.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain interactive features and editorial tools used across CNN.com
- Develop modern web applications using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS with a focus on accessibility, performance, and responsive design
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and newsroom partners to implement new features
- Contribute to code reviews and help improve the quality of the codebase
- Participate in agile development processes including planning, demos, and retrospectives
- Learn from senior engineers through mentorship and collaboration
- Help support systems during major news events and high traffic moments
Skills
- Experience building web applications using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
- Understanding of responsive design and semantic HTML
- Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows
- Interest in learning full stack development and cloud based systems
- Experience or exposure to testing frameworks such as Jest, Mocha, or Jasmine
- Strong problem solving skills and curiosity to learn new technologies
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Interest in journalism, storytelling, or mission driven technology
- Experience working with content management systems used in news or publishing
- Familiarity with Python or other scripting languages
- Experience building data visualizations or interactive storytelling tools
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure or DevOps tooling
- Experience supporting applications in production environments
