About the Role
As a Data Engineer within our Operations Analysis and Performance (OAP) department, you will serve as a crucial bridge between raw data and strategic insights. Your work will directly contribute to informed decision-making across the organization, enabling leaders to drive performance improvements and operational efficiencies.
Our data engineering teams are the backbone of our analytics capabilities. We are responsible for curating authoritative data tables that serve as the Single Source of Truth for all analytical work, developing and distributing automated reporting in modular and scalable ways, leading initiatives to modernize our data and reporting infrastructure, and acting as champions for best practices in data processing and management.
What You'll Do
Your day-to-day responsibilities will span a variety of challenging and rewarding tasks:
- Data Extraction & Integration: Locate and extract information from multiple sources to be used in evaluation, models, and project development. You'll work with diverse data sources, understanding their structure and identifying the most valuable information for our analytical needs.
- Data Curation & Cleaning: Clean and curate datasets by exploring new data sources and collaborating with different business units to determine the best source of information, aggregating perspectives into meaningful hierarchies that drive actionable insights.
- Reporting Enhancement: Become familiar with data environments and collaborate to improve automated reports and analyses in support of divisional leaders and business units. Your technical expertise will help streamline reporting processes and increase efficiency.
- Innovation & Technology: Leverage emerging technologies and proactively discover efficient and meaningful approaches to communicate data and analysis that meet divisional needs. You'll stay current with industry trends and bring fresh ideas to the team.
- Project Support: Support strategy development and project management engagements for individual business units and cross-divisional initiatives. Your work will have enterprise-wide impact.
- Mentorship: Train and mentor other team members in various skills and subjects, contributing to the overall growth and capabilities of the analytics community.

What You Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years of related experience in data engineering, analytics, or a similar role.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL and ETL/ELT patterns is essential for success in this role.
- Programming: Proficiency with Python, SAS, or other comparable tools and programming languages.
- Troubleshooting: Ability to troubleshoot a reporting database environment and resolve complex issues efficiently.
- Attention to Detail: Strong interest in detail and ability to work autonomously while managing multiple requests with various timelines.
- Self-Motivation: Self-starter with a resilient, solution-minded approach to complex problems, working independently or as part of a team.

- Education: Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications

- Industry Experience: Previous experience in the airline, transportation, or logistics industry.
- Cloud Expertise: Working knowledge of and/or experience with cloud-based solutions such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or similar technologies.
